The concern about the future and the quest of self understanding is refer to as Identity Crisis.
Kalat (2011) has place the identity statuses in a grid form, as below.
Identity Achievement is a status given to those who has gone through and explore varieties of identities and had come to make a decision on it. A good example here, will be when individual is on the verge of selecting the best career path. And after going through different job aspects such as the subjects covered, see and evaluate people with certain careers, internship. part time work and such, one finally made a decision on what he or she chooses to be.
Identity Moratorium is a status for one who is seeking various identities, yet have not decided or make any decisions on it.
Identity Foreclosure is for those who made decision to a commitment without much thinking about it.
Identity Diffusion are those who are not concern about going into any commitments or making any decision as they do not see or face any identity crisis. This type of identity is seen among those with low self-esteem, hopeless and the kind of not worry bout the world and their life.
